Group talks public health with Ukrainian health advisers

Attendees at the Global Ties Arkansas event on Sept. 14 discuss the event.

Global Ties Arkansas is partnering with health advisers from the eastern European country of Ukraine to discuss public health in the U.S.

The group held an event Sept. 14 where five speakers from Ukraine compared some of the health situations in the two countries.  They focused on issues such as HIV, chronic diseases, and climate change.  Speakers suggested increasing access to annual health check-ups and building an awareness campaign.

To grow the health communication community, a group of UA Little Rock students from the applied communication department were invited to participate.  The event was organized by Heidi Whitman, a UA Little Rock graduate who was connected to the group through an internship as a student.

Through these types of events, Global Ties Arkansas hopes to grow the Natural State’s public health efforts.
