The UA Little Rock Lady Trojans beat the Georgia State Panthers to become the Sunbelt Conference Champions, securing the number one seed in the Sunbelt Conference Tournament.
“It’s pretty impressive, I knew the girls’ team was going to be good this year,” said Trojan fan, Alan Hamrick.
The Trojans needed to win their last two home games at the Jack Stephens Center to win the conference outright. Their first win came against the Georgia Southern Eagles on Thursday, Feb. 23 in a special Play4Kay game to benefit breast cancer. The Trojans beat the Eagles 57-4 after being down midway through the third quarter, going on a 15-0 run in the fourth quarter to take the lead and win the game.
Their second win came on Saturday, Feb. 25 when they beat the Panthers 52-45 on Senior Night. A close game throughout the first quarter, the Trojans pulled away in the second quarter to lead 30-21 at the half. The Trojans never looked back, scoring nine points in the third and 13 points in the fourth quarter. Senior Kaitlyn Pratt led the Trojans with 16 points in the game. The Trojans had 41 rebounds and four steals on the night.
UA Little Rock has two more games left to play in the regular season, one March 2 at the South Alabama University and the other March 4 at the Troy University. They will play in the Sunbelt Conference Tournament March 8-12 in New Orleans.
